To kick off our month of festivities we started with a visit from Herrings Green Farm, part of the English School of Falconry. Marcus, the animal handler, brought along with him 3 different species of owl which residents were able to help fly across the room wearing a falconry glove, there was a long-haired Ferret called Slinky, a Skunk called Penelope & a Tortoise called Flash. Slinky and Penelope were, with the constant guidance and supervision of Marcus, handed around between the residents who were able to get up close, see all the fine details of the animals and stroke them – they were both extremely well behaved and surprisingly very cuddly! Due to the fragile nature of Flash, he was taken around for residents to touch, look at and ask questions which was great. Marcus was incredibly knowledgeable of each animals individual requirements and also about their species as a whole, there were many questions from residents and lots of information and facts shared. Everyone who joined us for the session, staff and residents, thoroughly enjoyed themselves and are still, a week later, talking about it. It was a really great fun packed afternoon.
